Starburst and Licorice were littermates, born in March 2000, the nicest, most affectionate rabbits you will ever meet, being hand-raised as babies by the good folks of Michigan Rabbit Rescue. I was only bun-sitting when Star decided I was going to be her life-long slave and caretaker. She made sure everyone knew I was hers and hers alone.
She and Licorice had a rocky relationship. Though initially bonded, the two had a falling out over who got ownership of their favorite human. After a messy divorce, the two learned to live somewhat amicably in the same house until Licorice's stroke a few years later.
Just a few days shy of her 12th birthday, Star's body gave out and she left me with great reluctance, fighting to stay with me to the very end. She was my bunny soul-mate. No one can ever replace her in my heart. I am deeply grateful that she's waiting on me, having the time of her life in Heaven, until I join her. I hope she's treating Licorice a little better up there, now that God's looking on.
Star looked like a little beer barrel covered in beaver fur, with a Hemi motor hidden inside. Was she ever fast! And fierce! She had no qualms about killing spiders or bugs or anything that entered her domain without permission. She was best known by her nickname: Bossy Doe. She was also called Ms. Brown Ears, Sweetie-pea, Cutey Jaws, Queen Bee... even "schlechtes faules Haschen" in the rare times she was naughty. She was very smart and knew when Mom started muttering in German, it was time to fly back into the hidey box and thump repeatedly for mercy.
Star never lived long enough to fulfill her lifelong dream of eating a destructive path through Lego World, but her memory will never fade as long as I live.
